Q: What if I have not been to church in a long time?
A; Not a problem! In fact, we don’t care if you have never been to church. Each weekend, many people visit Our Savior for the first time. Our worship services are easy to follow and don’t require that you have any past church experience.
Q: What if I am not Lutheran?
A: While Our Savior is a Missouri Synod Lutheran Church, we are open to all people seeking to grow in a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Being Lutheran isn’t nearly as important as simply having a heart to seek Christ. If you want to learn more about Lutheran doctrine, that’s an option. But it’s certainly not a requirement for attending.
Q: What can I expect when I come to Our Savior?
A:
Worship Services
On Sunday mornings at Our Savior we offer two worship services, one traditional and one contemporary.
Our Traditional service begins at 8:00am and is liturgical. Worshipers use the Lutheran Service Book. The service is led by Pastor and a cantor. The congregation sings responses in the liturgy and hymns from the service book. The service is accompanied mainly by organ. There is also scripture reading, special music, and a sermon that lasts about 20 minutes.
Our Contemporary service begins at 10:45am and is less formal in nature. There are 2-3 songs sung at the beginning of the service, scripture reading, and a sermon lasting about 20 minutes. Service is led by Pastor, a worship leader, and the worship band.
At both services there may also be baptisms and Holy Communion. The pastor will pray during services, but you may also receive individual prayer after either service if needed.
Bible Classes
In between services on Sunday mornings bible classes for all ages are offered. Our greeters and ushers would be happy to help you find appropriate classes for you or your family.
5th SUNDAYS
When there is a 5th Sunday in a month Our Savior celebrates as a church coming together for one worship service starting at 10:00am. Bibles classes begin at 9:00am on these Sundays.
Q: What should I wear?
A: Wear what you feel is comfortable and appropriate. We do not have a dress code and we certainly wouldn’t want you to worry about this! Some people wear jeans and t-shirt, while others come in “business casual” attire. Some people prefer to dress up, while others prefer to dress down. We are more concerned about your heart and your needs than we are about your clothing.
Q: What if I want to receive Holy Communion?
A: Baptized adult Christians who know they need God’s daily forgiveness, who are sorry for their sins and seek God’s forgiveness, and who believe that the body and blood of Jesus Christ are truly present in the Lord’s Supper are invited to share this great gift of God with us. If you are not currently a member of a LC-MS congregation we respectfully ask that you speak to our Pastor prior to receiving the Lord's Supper. You may contact him by email or through the church office by calling 615-833-1500.
Jesus called us to celebrate Holy Communion until He returns so that we may have forgiveness of sins, strengthening of faith, and the power to live God-pleasing lives.
God’s Word tells us that when we receive the Lord’s Supper, we are not merely receiving bread and wine, but the true, real body and blood of Jesus Christ. Jesus said in Matthew 26:26-30, “This is my body… this is my blood;” not “this represents my body” or “this symbolizes my blood.”
Q: I am struggling with some personal problems. Is help available?
A: Our Pastor is always ready to meet, discuss, counsel, and pray with you about any situation you may be facing. You may contact Pastor McLain person to person, on Sunday morning; through the church office; or by email. Here is a link to all the contact information.
Also, following each of our worship services there is a church leader waiting on the front right side of the sanctuary to talk with and pray with anyone individually.
Q: How do I find out what's going on at Our Savior?
A: One great way to find out is to check out our calendar. If attend on Sunday morning there is also a lot of information in our bulletin news and events insert every week.
Q: How do I get involved?
A: The best place to start is to attend a Bible study. If it's serving you're interest in, we have a place for you. Take a moment to look through the list of ministries and contact the church office for more information on ministries you are interested in.
Q: How do I become a member?
A: Twice a year we offer one 8 - 12 week class (Depending on class participation) for adult membership. The class begins the first Tuesday after Easter and the first Tuesday after Labor Day. The class meets on Tuesday evenings from 6:30 to 8:00 pm. Child care is provided.
Q: What if I want to get married at Our Savior?
